Like Dominos . . . . Doctors Save Sight of Six Armenian Infants

The EyeCare Project launched a new program in June to eliminate infant blindness from ROP—Retinopathy of Prematurity. Physicians from the U.S., Australia and Armenia gathered in Yerevan for a conference to train Armenian physicians and diagnose and treat infants.

Nobody anticipated the conference would end the way it did finding six infants who would go blind within 24 hours without surgery. The physicians worked throughout the night to save the sight of all six babies.

The program will continue as a partnership with the Vision Center at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Images taken by a donated RETCAM (Retinal Camera) will be sent via computer to doctors at Childrens Hospital who will read the images and instruct the Armenian physicians.

A moving and “must watch” film.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjtidm3r0Kw
